Locations for donations are disappearing across Los Banos

Posted by Habitat Humanity on Sunday, April 1, 2018, In : News

The question is, “toss it where?” In the garbage? Most of us would rather give it away, especially if it’s in reasonably good shape. But in Los Banos, it’s getting harder to do that, because almost all of the places that used to accept clothes, toys and household items a...

Posted by Habitat Humanity on Thursday, April 2, 2015, In : News

The Planning Commission on Wednesday recommended the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity be allowed to divide its land to build more homes.

The Los Banos City Council will make the final decision in upcoming weeks.

Habitat Westside has requested a zoning change and parcel split of land at 537, 543 and 547 M Street. If approved, the change would allow Habitat officials to build four homes on the property rather than three.

“When they first came to us, we kind of talked about different ideas o...

Hello, lights: Habitat awaits action that'll permit store to open

Posted by Habitat Humanity on Monday, March 11, 2013, In : News
Let there be light... and a restroom.

That has been Habitat Westside's goal for the past 19 months as the group strove to turn its warehouse garage sale, held for four hours on Saturdays, into a full-fledged secondhand store.

The local Habitat for Humanity opened a ReStore to support its charitable work in August of 2011, but there was a problem. The building inspector would not allow the store, at 110 G St., to open without electricity and a restroom. Instead a compromise was reached, the cit...
